April 3, 2019 marked one year since a curious little man we call George, found us! A wild, intact, not-house-trained dog—turned diva, who wears a sleep mask, cannot be disturbed after dark, and turns his nose up at anything less than the best meats and cheeses lol weaseled his way right into our hearts with his huge happy heart! Being a medium sized, male, hound, he was not at all what either of us were looking for in a "new" dog after losing our little Lexi, but apparently the universe knew exactly what we needed, and it was him, with that handsome face, and flashy legs—fitting seamlessly right into our lives. He’s super smart—smart enough to know when he doesn't want to listen, or stubborn...whatever you wanna call it lol and of course doesn't mind modeling at all. If I'd only known when Nick sent me that first picture captioned "Hey there's a dog out here" how much I'd love this boy. If it were possible, he’d wake up smiling and singing, *queue the morning guy’s song on Friends "Morning's here! The morning is here! Sunshine is here, The sky is clear! “ and he is one of the happiest, if not the happiest dog I've known, and he makes me happy every. single. day. He is so purely sweet, and it’s so sad to think he lived the first three-ish years of his life not knowing love. We’ve done all we can to make up for it too! Last summer he went along on a three state camping adventure, road tripping through 7 states, then in September he got to visit the gorgeous sparkling waters of the Emerald Coast of Florida when we went on a family vacation to Santa Rosa Beach, with plenty of canoeing, hiking, dog-friendly restaurant outings, and dog park fun in between! He’s been spoiled beyond measure, and he deserves every bit of it! Even if he is a stinker and runs the neighborhood any given chance. But we’re working on it, and he’s getting better and better at everything we ask of him, and learning domestic life. We finally made it south, calling Charleston, SC home, and hopefully he’ll handle the storms ok, the compromise he doesn’t understand is he won’t have to be cold very often anymore lol Everyone he meets seems to love him too, and there's no shortage of dog lovers around here!
The following photos are some of my favorites from the last year, and then his anniversary day at Wannamaker Dog Park! Yesterday we got out for a mini shoot down at Waterfront Park, so check back soon for a blog featuring those images!
And if you want to see more of what daily life has been like with George, there is a highlight on my personal Instagram @laceyschuetz and he has his own @thetruegoldenhound, but I’ve slacked on it with the move.
Year One with George:
There were a few dogs at Wannamaker Dog Park on George's Found Ya Day, but I didn't get photos of everyone. The labradoodle is Max, and the lab pictured, other than the very last one of Jake, is Tucker, who looked just like young Jake, and was even wearing a similar color collar! It was a little trippy to see! We had to end the fun when George started to get a little limpy, but he's ok, I think he just over did it a little. This was his little celebration :)
